Listen to great four-part, a cappella melodies sung in barbershop style by members of the SeaChordsmen, Seattle’s barbershop chorus. This free public concert is part of the SeaChordsmen’s commitment to adopt programs each year that stress service to the community, good fellowship, and vocal music education. The Seattle SeaChordsmen are a group of amateur singers who enjoy performing this great American art form. Come enjoy songs from all decades of the 20th century, for barbershop harmony is ageless in its appeal to singers and audiences. This free concert is Saturday, August 28 at 2pm in the Counterbalance Park, Queen Anne Ave. N and Roy St. (Map), Seattle, WA 98119-3828.
The Counterbalance Park is relatively level, 12,000 square feet, bordered on two sides by streets and two sides by condominiums. A variety of neighborhood residential and commercial buildings are visible from the site. Queen Anne Avenue North and Roy Street are both heavily traveled arterials. Traffic signals and crosswalks allow pedestrian access to the site. There is no on-site parking.

The Lonely Kazoo: A Synthetic Journey to Heaven is an operatic coming-of-age story about a young kazoo searching for a new home as a post-consumer product. Featuring a rock band, shadow puppets and, of course, kazoos. The show will play at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center for all to enjoy on Thursday, August 19 from 7:00pm – 10:00pm. $5-$7 Admission, appropriate for all ages.

The mission of the Fremont Abbey is to be a vibrant community venue for people of all ages and incomes to be supported in their artistic & social development through new collaborative arts experiences. The Abbey focuses on music, dance, visual, literary and culinary arts in formats including multi-arts performances, group classes & workshops, individual lessons, new exhibits and artistic life celebrations.
Hoot House Productions provides low-cost studio production while still having access to professional equipment. If you’re in a band and just starting out in Seattle, it’s crucial to have professional recordings to build a fan base and to book gigs. Hoot House Productions wants to make it easier for that to happen for musicians who are strapped for cash. Hoothouse has a versatile collection of mics from Neumann, BLUE, Peluso, Rode, Sennheiser, Shure, and more and can run either Pro Tools or Cubase through a few different choices of quality preamps and through a 16 channel Mackie mixer and an Echo Audiofire12.

Music in the Garden is an exciting new event for Bellevue Botanical Gardens. Kicking off the inaugural evening will be jazz vocalist Kelley Johnson with the John Hansen trio. Kelley Johnson is an international award winning jazz vocalist who is known and respected as an arranger, poet and lyricist with a personal body of recordings. Kelley’s lithe velvety voice mixes with a feisty delivery, tricky colorful arrangements and features the gifted and inspired jazz pianist, John Hansen. An organic groovy singer with a direct approach, Kelley reaches her audience with storytelling, subtlety, soulfulness and swing. This promises to be a wonderful summer evening of music in the garden. EMP|SFM hosts Heart: Night At Sky Church on Friday, August 27, at 7:00 pm. This FREE film screening of Heart’s upcoming concert film DVD celebrates the release of Heart’s new album Red Velvet Car (release date: August 31). Heart: Night At Sky Church was filmed during a live concert the band performed at EMP earlier this year. Seating is limited. Comp tickets must be claimed at least 15 minutes prior to show time or they will be released to the rush line.

Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum (EMP|SFM) is dedicated to the exploration of creativity and innovation in popular music and the thought-provoking ideas and experiences of science fiction. Celebrate Scoop Fest with free ice cream on Sunday, July 25 at the Full Tilt Columbia City location at 5041 Rainier Ave. S. (Just south of downtown Columbia City). Scoop Fest begins at 2pm and includes free music by The Femurs, Big Sur, and Senandoah Davis.
The annual Alki Arts Fair raises money for scholarships for art class scholarships offered through the Alki Community Center and Alki Bathhouse. More than 70 artists will be selling their work.
