Movies at the Mural at Seattle Center is an outdoor cinema experience like no other!

Experience FREE movies by moonlight at Movies at the Mural on the grounds of Seattle Center this August. Picnic on the gently sloping Mural Amphitheatre lawn, in front of a state-of-the-art giant screen, with the Space Needle standing sentry in the starry skies above you. Movies at the Mural is an outdoor cinema experience like no other!

2010 Lineup

  • Saturday, August 7 – The Princess Bride (PG). A cult classic fairy tale with swordplay, giants, an evil prince, a beautiful princess, and yes, some kissing.
  • Saturday, August 21 – Twilight (PG-13). The first film in the blockbuster saga, Twilight is an action-packed, modern day love story between a teenage girl and a vampire.
  • Sunday, August 22 – The Twilight Saga: New Moon (PG-13). In the second installment of the phenomenally successful Twilight series, the romance between mortal and vampire soars to a new level as Bella Swan delves deeper into the mysteries of the supernatural world she yearns to become part of, only to find herself in greater peril than ever before.
  • Saturday, August 28 – Star Trek (PG-13). The greatest adventure of all time begins with “Star Trek” the incredible story of a young crew’s maiden voyage onboard the most advanced starship ever created: the U.S.S. Enterprise.
  • Free ice cream in Columbia City July 25 (limited to the first 300 scoops)

    Celebrate Scoop Fest with free ice cream on Sunday, July 25 at the Full Tilt Columbia City location at 5041 Rainier Ave. S. (Just south of downtown Columbia City). Scoop Fest begins at 2pm and includes free music by The Femurs, Big Sur, and Senandoah Davis.

    Free Shakespeare in the park Thurs-Sun by GreenStage

    GreenStage’s mission is to inspire audiences to engage with live theater as part of their recreation. The productions are free, fun, and family-oriented. Shakespeare’s plays are presented simply, focusing on the text, story, characters and relationships in the play.

    GreenStage’s 22nd season is filled with love and lovers. Tragic, beautiful, silly, star-crossed, unrequited and out of their minds – they’re all here in “As You Like It” and “Romeo & Juliet”, presented through August 14 in parks throughout the region, including several parks in Seattle as well as parks in Lynnwood, Burien, Fall City, and Redmond.     Plays are offered on Thursday-Saturday nights at 7pm and Saturday and Sunday afternoon at 3pm.

    Free battle of the bands rock concert at Seattle Center July 8

    Seattle Center & EMP present SummerSound, an all-ages concert at Center Square on Thursday, July 8 from 7:00 pm – 10:00pm. See the best of the Sound-Off bands reunite with performances by Idiot Pilot, People Eating People, SEACATS, and more! Admission is free. CENTER SQUARE is located at 305 Harrison Street, Seattle, WA 98109.

    Sound Off! is the Northwest’s largest underage battle of the bands competition for musicians 21 and under. The competition supports the local underage music scene by giving young artists from all different backgrounds a once in a lifetime opportunity to come together and play their original music in a great all-ages atmosphere. A launching pad for musical careers, Sound Off! has enjoyed hosting many young up-and-coming bands over the years including Schoolyard Heroes, New Faces, The Lonely Forest, Dyme Def, The Lonely H, Sol, and Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head.

    Free teen performance opportunity every Friday in Rainier Valley

    Verbal Graffiti Poetry Open Mic event is hosted every Friday evening in the Rainier Valley.     Free REI Family Adventure Program

    REI’s Family Adventure Program starts with a FREE Kids’ Adventure Journal where kids can log their outdoor fun. It’s chock-full of games and activities. Your kids can also earn a certificate of completion!

    There are also plenty of parent-tested tips for enjoying the outdoors with kids in the REI collection of Expert Advice for families and lists (by location) for family-friendly hiking and biking trails, encouraging your family to get outside! Learn kid-friendly activities like kayaking, geocaching and hiking.

    Twilight: Eclipse Movie Event at the Fremont Outdoor Movies summer kick off June 26

    The Fremont Outdoor Movies kicks off its summer 2010 season with opening night on June 26th with the Twilight: Eclipse Movie Event. The event will include a “never-before-seen” clip from the newest chapter in the Twilight Saga.

    The doors open at 6:00 pm and the screening starts at dusk (around 9:30 pm) so come early and grab a seat! The screening is absolutely FREE.

  • Wristbands will be available for the event beginning at 11:00 am at the Fremont Outdoor Movies box office, located at 3501 Phinney Ave North underneath the outdoor movies screen.
  • $10 visits to historic Dunn Gardens in north Seattle

    Visits to the Dunn Gardens are open to the public for guided tours only. Reservations must be made in advance. The tour schedule runs from April 1 through July and from September 1 through October. The gardens are closed in August. There is a limit of 12 people per tour. Admission is $10 per person, $7 for senior citizens and students, payable by check or cash at the door (Groups of 6 or more must pay for the tour in advance). Children under 12 and pets are not admitted. Parking is very limited and carpooling is recommended. We cannot accommodate any vehicles larger than a passenger van.

    The gardens are located approximately 10 miles north of downtown Seattle. Driving directions are provided once a reservation has been confirmed.

    Tours often book several weeks in advance, so give yourself plenty of time when scheduling. Please see our calendar for a list of scheduled tours and availability, then use this form to request your reservations. Once a reservation has been made, we will contact you with confirmation, driving directions, and further instructions.

    Plants in the gardens range from diminutive trilliums, no more than an inch tall, to Douglas firs towering more than 150 feet in the air. Woodland gardens, perennial borders, and great sweeps of lawn are just a few of the elements that make up the garden. The collection includes rhododendrons, specimen flowering trees, and woodland plants such as erythroniums and trilliums, sited beneath a canopy of fir and deciduous trees that remain from the original garden designed by the Olmstead brothers in 1916.
