    About the Ruby Room

The Ruby Room is a nonprofit organization that provides formal gowns to Seattle area high school girls who are unable to purchase their own dance attire. Dresses and accessories are collected throughout the year and made available at boutiques in the spring. Each girl is paired with a personal shopper volunteer who assists her in picking out the perfect gown.

The Ruby Room was founded in 2002 by Nyla Bittermann (Jordan) and Kristen Corning. It all started with 8 volunteers working out of an office in Queen Anne and is now going strong on Capital Hill with over 100 volunteers.

The Ruby Room Youth Council promotes the concept of Volunteer & Learn. The Volunteer & Learn program offers an opportunity to gain required community service hours through volunteer duties at The Ruby Room and offers a monthly life skill lesson supported by local businesses in the community.

The Ruby Room believes that the young women in our community need the tools, Volunteer & Learn Workshops provide, to become strong and effective women.
