Celebrate Mother’s Day at the annual Kirkland Artists Studio Tour

The annual Kirkland Artists Studio Tour (KAST) occurs every year on Mother’s Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am to 5:00pm. The free self-guided tour includes dozens of local artists showing in unique home studios throughout Kirkland. Explore the scenic neighborhoods of Kirkland on the beautiful shores of Lake Washington. Tour visitors are invited into a variety of different studios, representing dozens of local artists. Browse among new works; watch art making demonstrations; and purchase art directly from the artists themselves.

To pick up a brochure which includes a map of the KAST 2012 Studios and Artists, please visit the Kirkland Arts Center, 620 Market Street, Kirkland WA 98033 (Google map). Smart phone users can directly access our KAST 2012 Google Map for help in navigating the tour.

KAST began in 2004 when a small band of artists decided it was time Kirkland had its own artist studio tour. The artists open their studios once a year on Mothers Day weekend to give the public a rare opportunity to see artists create in their studios. Kirkland Arts Center took on the management of the tour in 2008 as part of new programming initiatives designed to support the arts within the local community.

The Ruby Room, a Seattle non-profit that provides free formal gowns to teens whose families are struggling financially, holds Saturday boutique events where Seattle high school students can select a prom gown and accessories, all free of charge. If you or someone you know needs a gown, please e-mail nyla@rubyroomseattle.org to schedule a boutique appointment. Please include your name, phone number, high school and date of the dance.

  • Spring 2012 Boutique appointments are available every Saturday starting April 7th through June 9th (closed Memorial Day weekend).

About the Ruby Room

The Ruby Room is a nonprofit organization that provides formal gowns to Seattle area high school girls who are unable to purchase their own dance attire. Dresses and accessories are collected throughout the year and made available at boutiques in the spring. Each girl is paired with a personal shopper volunteer who assists her in picking out the perfect gown. Founded in 2002 by Nyla Bittermann (Jordan) and Kristen Corning with 8 volunteers working out of an office in Queen Anne, The Ruby Room now boasts over 100 volunteers. The Ruby Room Youth Council promotes the concept of Volunteer & Learn, a program that offers an opportunity for teen women to gain required community service hours through volunteer duties at The Ruby Room and life skill lessons supported by local businesses in the community. The Ruby Room believes that the young women in our community need the tools that the Volunteer & Learn Workshops provide, to become strong and effective adults.
