Watch and discuss two remarkable documentaries focused on the representation of black superheroes in comics. Nathan HD of Destiny City Comics will be joining to discuss these films:
- White Scripts and Black Supermen: Black Masculinities in Comic Books (2012 – 54 min). A valuable and colorful examination of 40 years of changing representations of Black masculinity in a significant area of popular culture — comic books.
- Milestone Generations (2022 – TV-14 – 52 minutes). Where are the Black superheroes? That question posed back in 1993, sparked a revolution with the creation of Milestone Media. This incisive documentary tells the story of four Black creators who changed the face of superhero storytelling. This film is an HBOmax exclusive film, and they graciously provided us permission to screen it publicly.
