Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count (CBC) began on Christmas Day in 1900 as an alternative to the tradition at the time: a Christmas bird hunt. Instead of shooting birds, enthusiasts began counting birds. Fast forward 124 years later, we have an incredible dataset that scientists use to assess bird trends and health. And here’s the best part: you can help! Participating in the CBC is an excellent way to make a contribution to bird conservation right where you live. Come learn more about the CBC and how you can sign up to help this year! Brian Zinke is the Executive Director of the Pilchuck Audubon Society, which serves Snohomish County and Camano Island. His background as a wildlife biologist has taken him across several states where he’s worked to conserve endangered species and species of concern. He is passionate about science and conservation, and enjoys hiking, backpacking, photography – and birding – in his free time. More info: Calendar • Fall Birding with Pilchuck Audubon: Christmas Bir
