2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar
This year’s tournament is being held in Qatar, a small country in Western Asia on the Persian Gulf (next to Saudi Arabia). The World Cup usually takes place in summer. However, due to the extreme heat in Qatar in summer, the 2022 games are taking place in winter.
The 2022 World Cup takes place from November 20 to December 18, 2022. Here are the key dates:
- Opening Ceremony: Sunday, November 20
- Group stage (32 teams): November 20-Dec. 2 (Update: November 29, US won v Iran 1-0)
- Round 16: Dec. 3-6 (Update: December 3, US v Netherlands at 7AM PST)
- Quarterfinals: Dec. 9-10
- Semi-finals: Dec. 13-14
- Third-place match: Dec. 17
- WC Final: Sunday, Dec. 18
On game days, World Cup Qatar 2022 game times are at 7:00 AM PST (10:00AM EST) and 11:00 AM PST (2:00 PM EST). In the group stage, the number of teams is reduced from 32 to 16. The United States soccer team group stage matches are scheduled as follows:
- Monday, November 21 — USA vs. Wales at 11 a.m. PST
- Friday, November 25 – USA vs. England at 11 a.m. PST
- Tuesday, November 29 – USA vs. Iran at 11 a.m. PST
Depending on the results, the U.S. team may advance to Round 16 and then on to the finals matches.
