MLK Day volunteer service in Seattle
- North Seattle: Licton Springs Tree Planting Party, January 20, 2020 from 9 am – 12 pm, corner of N 85th St & Meridian Ave N in north Seattle. Help plant some new green in the neighborhood! Volunteers have been working at this site for the past couple of years to remove blackberry that was blanketing this site. Now they are ready to plant trees that will grow and benefit the entire neighborhood. Tool and gloves provided, no experience necessary. - South Seattle: Seward Park Work Party, January 20, 2020 from 10 am – 1 pm, 5902 Lake Washington Blvd S. Join Seward Park Audubon Center and help clear invasive plants and establish mulch rings around new native plantings. Your efforts will continue to restore a former blackberry jungle into a native tree and shrub oasis! Tools and gloves provided, no experience necessary. - South Seattle: Kubota Garden Work Party, January 20, 2020 from 10 am – 2 pm, corner of Renton Ave S & 53rd Ave S in south Seattle. Join EarthCorps, the Green Seattle Partnership and Seattle parks & Recreation to restore the urban forest around Kubota Garden! Located in the Rainier Beach Neighborhood, Kubota Garden is an American-Japanese Garden designed and built by Mr. Fujitaro Kubota. Construction of this gem began in 1927 and lasted beyond the lifetime of Mr. Kubota. Today, the Gardens are owned by the City of Seattle and maintained by the Seattle Parks Department. The garden is surrounded by a natural buffer of urban forest, which is where our restoration work will be focused. Tools and gloves provided, no experience necessary.
