On Syttende Mai [Soot-n-duh My] historic Ballard celebrates Norway Constitution Day (May 17) with family-friendly activities and evening parade. More info: http://www.17thofmay.org/. Here’s a run-down of free activities for May 17th:
Norwegian Day Festival free activities
- 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. Free Nordic Museum Admission ( 2655 NW Market Street Seattle, WA 98107 ). Crowd-favorite activities include the Fjord Horses and Nordic Express from 10am–2pm.
- 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Sons of Norway Leif Erikson Hall open house (2245 NW 57th Street). Experience the unique ambiance of the Lodge’s historic murals, enjoy live music, treat yourself to a delicious ekte Norsk lunch. The Lodge’s Nordic Café will be selling its famous smørbrød (open face sandwich), lefse (flatbread), and krumkake (cookies).
- 2:00 pm – 5:45 pm. Join emcee Karen Pauley of KSER’s Nordic Roots & Branches at Bergen Place Park at the corner of Market & Leary for a full afternoon of the best of Nordic music and free family entertainment.
- 6:00 p.m. Parade. The route begins at NW 62nd and 24th Avenue NW and proceeds south to Market Street and eastward to Bergen Place park, then turns right onto 22nd and continues south down Ballard Avenue and ends at Lone St.
