CHOP SHOP invites everyone to explore modern and contemporary dance through our FREE, fun, and no experience necessary Experience Dance Program! Offered in partnership with The City of Bellevue Parks and Community Services Department, Bellevue College, and Bellevue Arts Museum these dance classes are companion events to the CHOP SHOP Contemporary Dance Festival, held online in January and February 2021. All 2021 Experience Dance Program classes will be held online via Zoom. Two classes are offered as part of the program:
- Reading Dance – the craft of choreography (January 17 & 31) is your chance to engage directly with festival artists as they discuss the craft of choreography. Join dancers and choreographers as they demystify and reveal the creative process behind contemporary dance films. Discover the type of movement language contemporary dance uses, learn different ways that dances are formed, explore the ways that choreographers and videographers collaborate, and ask questions of the artists themselves. Reading Dance is open to all ages and abilities.
- Introduction to Modern Dance (January 24 & 26) is a fun dance technique class for those interested in learning basic modern dance movement vocabulary – no previous dance experience necessary! Teaching artists lead participants through a fun series of exercises that explore the type of movement presented at the CHOP SHOP Contemporary Dance Festival. Introduction to Modern Dance is open to all abilities and is recommended for all over the age of 8.
