In February 2021, MIPoPS* celebrates the history of Seattle’s Black community through archival video and film. Drawing heavily from Seattle Municipal Archives’ digital collections, this month’s two programs collect clips of local Black artists, organizers, thinkers, and residents of our region. Expect appearances by former SKC NAACP president Carl Mack, spoken word artist Melissa Noelle Green, local b-boys, and one of our lifelong icons: Sir Mix-a-Lot (performing circa 1988). Streamed LIVE on the NWFF website and NWFF Facebook Videos page–watch on Facebook if you’d like to chat with the MIPoPS audiovisual archivists! FREE; donations to NWFF and/or donations to MIPoPS are very much appreciated. More info: Virtual Moving History – Black History Month 2021 – Northwest Film Forum (nwfilmforum.org)
*Moving Image Preservation of Puget Sound (MIPoPS) is a non-profit that enables archives, libraries, museums, heritage, and arts & science organizations (places like MOHAI, the Wing Luke Museum, or Seattle Art Museum, etc…) to convert their legacy video recordings to digital formats, allowing for greater access to our region’s cultural heritage. In a partnership with the Northwest Film Forum, MIPoPS hosts the weekly series “Virtual Moving History” each second and fourth Sunday of the month. Each week will provide comic relief, local histories, music, poetry, stage performance recordings, and much more. Watch past clips on the MIPoPS YoutTube channel.
