The City of Kenmore is celebrating the completion of the West (Southbound) Sammamish River Bridge Replacement Project. The new bridge replaces the southbound bridge that was constructed in the 1930’s and was nearing the end of its engineered life. To ensure the long-term safety of the bridge, construction of the new bridge began in March of 2020 after eight years of planning and securing $43 million in state, local, and federal funding sources. Despite the pandemic, concrete strike, and other unforeseen circumstances, City of Kenmore staff and the project partners kept the project on time and on budget. Walking, biking, or using public transportation to attend the event is highly encouraged. The City is providing two free ADA accessible shuttle stations at Epiphany Lutheran Church and Kenmore Community Church with parking available nearby.
The event will include a 6 p.m. ribbon cutting ceremony, guest speakers, live entertainment, activities for all ages, free food for the first 1,000 guests, fun giveaways for the first 1,500 guests, and a dazzling fireworks display at 9:30 p.m to cap off the celebration. Shuttles to the event will run from 5:45 p.m. – 8:45 p.m. and will shuttle back to the parking lots continuously until 10:15 p.m. (more info below).
Note: The west bridge will be closed that day beginning at 11 a.m. and vehicle traffic will be routed to the adjacent bridge until the following day. The boat launch at Rhododendron Park will also be closed on event day at noon. Log Boom Park will also be open as a viewing area for the fireworks show, but there will be no vendors or giveaways at Log Boom Park and no shuttle service to the park. Log Boom Park will close immediately after the fireworks show.
The event is free and open to the public. More info: West Sammamish River Bridge Opening Celebration & Fireworks | City of Kenmore Washington
