SIFF is Seattle’s leading year-round film organization that brings the best in international and independent film to the Seattle area.
In addition to producing the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF), held in May-June every year, the organization also operates the year-round SIFF Cinema at the Uptown Theater on Lower Queen Anne, the Egyptian theater on Capitol Hill, and the SIFF Film Center on the grounds of Seattle Center.
Founded in 1976, the first Seattle International Film Festival was held at the Egyptian-Moore Theatre, lasted two weeks, and showed 18 feature films.
Thirty-one years later in 2007, year-round programming began with the opening of SIFF Cinema in the Nesholm Family Lecture Hall at Seattle Center’s McCaw Hall.
Today, SIFF is the largest, most highly-attended film festival in the United States, with over 155,000 attendees annually and was named one of the 50 unmissable film festivals by Variety. The 25-day festival has continued to maintain relevance as Seattle’s most accessible and highly publicized film event, and is renowned for its eclectic programming with over 450 features, short films, and documentaries from over 80 countries.
SIFF Cinema operates three film venues: SIFF Film Center at Seattle Center, SIFF Cinema Uptown on Lower Queen Anne, and SIFF Cinema Egyptian Theatre on Capitol Hill.
SIFF Education innovates and highlights new film talent from around the world, alongside well-established filmmakers. SIFF Education also develops workshops, classes, and other educational opportunities in filmmaking and film appreciation, with programs for youth, filmmakers, and the general public.
How to volunteer at SIFF
Anyone at least 16 years old can volunteer year-round to work with SIFF. From students to retirees, the only requirement we have for our Festival volunteers is a love for exceptional films. Volunteers are key to the success of SIFF, assisting at the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF), SIFF Cinema, and SIFF Education.
During the Festival, hundreds of volunteers contribute thousands of hours doing various tasks at the theaters, offices, galas, and special events.
SIFF awards its volunteers with vouchers that are redeemable for the annual Film Festival, as well as for year-round SIFF Cinema tickets, and SIFF Membership (membership benefits include early access to Festival Tickets, ticket discounts, free popcorn, and more).
Of course, when you volunteer with SIFF, you also get to meet tons of cool people and, of course, see great films. To become a SIFF volunteer, first you need to register via their website at https://www.siff.net/support/volunteer.
