Senior Centers in the Puget Sound region

Senior centers have become a valuable resource for millions of seniors. The primary function of a senior center is to help connect seniors to area resources. They also serve as a hub for social outings and interactions. There are senior centers all over the area with different services and activities.

Centers host holiday events, game nights, entertainment options, athletic programs, and social gatherings. Most senior centers also feature a computer room. Classes in basic computer skills and cell phone classes are usually available. Medical care, transportation help, bodywork, and dental care are offered at some centers, too. Counseling and mental health services may also be available as well. Most senior centers are free, but some need a small membership fee or fees for classes or supplies.

Navigating a changing world during the aging process is often difficult for elderly adults. A senior center provides a safe place where folks can go to get accurate information, support, and help as needed. Some centers also provide resources for seniors to arrange in-home care, shopping support, and companionship. Being a senior can be lonely and confusing, senior centers provide a valuable resource to navigate the journey.

Local senior centers are listed below by county. Keep in mind, not every location will offer the same services. Besides these dedicated senior centers, many community centers offer similar programs and senior-only activities. Make sure to check with your local center to see what services they have available. Most locations have a newsletter available on their website. Many senior centers can provide transportation to and from the center.

Skagit County senior centers

Anacortes Senior Activity Center . This center offers meals, computer classes, medical program help, a wide range of exercise classes, and frequent social gatherings.

Burlington Senior Center. At this center, you’ll find meals, live music, fitness classes, and educational opportunities.

Mount Vernon Senior Center. Seniors in the Mt. Vernon area will be able to enjoy a hot lunch, take an educational class, get veteran support, learn a new skill, and visit with other local seniors at this center Games and art programs are also popular offerings.

Sedro-Woolley Senior Center The phrase heard here is “where aging is living,” this center offers a wide array of opportunities Everything from lunches, annual holiday events, bodywork services, Alzheimer’s support, and updates on local news.

Snohomish County senior centers

Arlington Stillaguamish Senior Center at Smokey Point has on-site affordable housing, caregiver support groups, live entertainment, and unique class offerings.

Darrington Cascade Senior Center . A smaller center featuring a thrift store, educational classes, holiday events, and lots of community involvement.

Edmonds Senior Center This location will be reopening with a brand new building in the fall of 2020.

Everett Senior Center Seniors will find a coffee bar, affordable lunches, special holiday events, classes, outings, and a plethora of activities here.

Granite Falls Senior Center hosts regular community events, holiday gatherings, and craft fairs.

Lake Stevens Senior Center . Visitors here participate in unique opportunities such as learning foreign languages, craft circles, and have their own library.

Lynnwood Multicultural Senior Center. Throughout Snohomish County are multicultural centers. The primary location is at the Center for Healthy Living in Lynwood. Through this program, seniors who do not speak English can get support from someone who speaks their language. Weekly gatherings are held as well.

Lynnwood Senior Center . Guests at this center enjoy unique and multicultural courses, fitness programs, birthday celebrations, outdoor recreation opportunities, and dozens of additional offerings. Membership is available for access to additional services and activities.

Marysville Ken Baxter Community Center is located on the beautiful grounds of Comeford Park in the heart of downtown Marysville. It has become a favorite place for senior citizens and other community members.

Monroe Senior Center. This is a pillar for seniors in the Monroe area. The center operates a thrift store, serves meals, hosts trips within the community, and provides dozens of services.

Mountlake Terrace Senior Center . Thousands of seniors make use of this beautiful property. The building is on a 42 acre park offering easy outdoor access and a tranquil setting for classes, socializing, education, and support.

Northshore Senior Center. Thousands of seniors rely on this network of senior centers each year. Employment support, adult day health, coffee bar, and dining, and fitness classes are among the opportunities available.

Snohomish Senior Center. Nearly 1,000 members take part in the services and programs here. Over 75 programs are offered including bodywork such as massage and foot care, faith-based gatherings, and art lessons.

Stanwood Senior Center. Social times, medical care, volunteer opportunities, and community involvement are pillars at this location Connections to affordable senior housing are also available.

Tulalip Tribes Senior Center. This center specifically for Tulalip Elders features regular breakfast and lunch gatherings, birthday celebrations, classes, and community gatherings.

Island County senior centers

Bayview Senior Center. Seniors here enjoy playing music together, classes, talking over a hot lunch, supported adult day services, and dozens of activities.

Coupeville Senior Center. Warm meals, a chance to socialize, live entertainment, outings, community support, and much more are found at the Coupeville HUB for seniors.

Oak Harbor Senior Center. This center offers programs including help with medical programs, community meals, and day services for those with cognitive or physical disabilities.

Kitsap Peninsula senior centers

Bainbridge Island Senior Center . This senior center is bursting with activities in a beautiful island location. Unique offerings include music groups, foreign language lessons, science presentations, overnight and day trips, sports programs, and more.

Bremerton Senior Center. The theme at this center is “Active Us.” The center itself features pool tables, hardwood dance floor, a computer lab, a kitchen, and a multipurpose room. Regular classes, meals, and seasonal events are held on site as well.

Port Orchard Givens Community Center. This many-faceted center, centrally located in a former School, currently houses the open-daily Senior Center, a branch of Connection Credit Union, Kitsap County Division of Aging & Long Term Care, Discovery Montessori school, Head Start/ECEAP, and Holly Ridge Center.

Poulsbo North Kitsap Senior Center. This small center features games, puzzles, gatherings, a library, and social opportunities.

King County senior centers

Auburn Senior Center. This busy center has outings, recreation, meals, a food pantry, social time, community support, and more Online event registration available.

Auburn / Federal Way Senior Center. Seniors in King and Pierce county can use the services at this center. Opportunities include hot lunches, games, volunteer opportunities, computer help, and a thrift store.

Bothell Senior Center. Thousands of seniors rely on this network of senior centers each year. Employment support, adult day health, coffee bar and dining, and fitness classes are among the opportunities available.

Carnation Senior Center. This location in the Snoqualmie Valley has been providing services for over 40 years including transportation, trips around the PNW, Bastyr health services, bodywork, and chances to share a meal with others.

Enumclaw Senior Center. A busy location which makes the most of all this area has to offer. Seniors here enjoy outings, fresh local produce, educational opportunities, and social times with new and old friends.

Issaquah Senior Center. Seniors at this center have a plethora of services and activities available. A local social worker is available for those who need it as well as health programs, outings, meals, card games, and more.

Kenmore Senior Center. Thousands of seniors rely on this network of senior centers each year. Employment support, adult day health, coffee bar and dining, and fitness classes are among the opportunities available.

Kent Senior Center. Over 20,000 square feet with meals, dancing, computer classes, games, social events, beauty clinics, and dozens more services and activities.

North Bend / Mt. Si Senior Center . “Expand Your World” is a theme at this location. The staff and volunteers have created creative programs for a wide range of interests and needs with fun themes and unique opportunities not found in other locations.

Redmond Senior Center. As of December 2019, this center is closed for renovations. Activities continue at alternative locations throughout Redmond, see their website for more information.

Renton Senior Center. Renton area seniors come here for social and educational opportunities, free legal services, meals, and a special program for widows.

Shoreline Senior Center. This large center offers 60+ programs per week, seniors are sure to find something here that they’ll enjoy. Unique opportunities include movies, dancing, writing classes, local and international travel opportunities, and interest-based clubs.

Vashon Senior Center. As of 2019, nearly half of Vashon citizens are seniors making this center in demand and active. Lunch, movies, transportation, and fun await visitors at this location.

Seattle Senior Centers

Seattle – Ballard Senior Center. Located near the locks, this center is bustling with activities, including services for non-native English speakers. Arts and crafts, fitness activities, meals, outings, a bookshop, transportation services, and special events are available.

Seattle – Central Area Senior Center. Visitors enjoy beautiful views of Mt. Rainier and Lake Washington from this location. Mental health services are available, as well as access to alternative medicine and Western medicine, meals, outings, recreation, and social events.

Seattle – Chinese Senior Community Center. Located within the Chinatown district, seniors visit this location to connect with others, enjoy a meal, work on personal growth, get exercise and learn something new.

Seattle – Club Bamboo serves the needs of Asian American and Pacific Islander seniors in the Seattle are. Meals are provided within this cuisine, as well as social opportunities, educational programs, English language lessons, and more.

Seattle – Lake City Senior Center. This multi-lingual location provides meals, movies, games, and social time for Lake City area seniors. Staff and volunteers who speak several languages.

Seattle – Phinney/Greenwood Senior Center. The Phinney Center is centrally located and provides a wide range of unique memory loss support programs in addition to social, educational, and recreational activities for all seniors.

Seattle – Pike Place Market Senior Center. The title of their newsletter, “Parsley, Sage & Time” captures the spirit of fun found at this location. Classes and events are given witty names, puns abound, and so do opportunities. Seniors here enjoy learning, connecting with others, exercise, and much more.

Seattle – Southeast Senior Center. Rainier Valley seniors gather for crafting, community support, movie screenings, bodywork, game nights, and other activities. There is also a thrift store available with deals and bargain days!

Seattle – South Park Senior Center. Serving a wide range of ethnic diversity and primarily low-income seniors. Meals are available as well as connections to community resources and opportunities for education and fun.

Seattle – Wallingford Senior Center. Serving seniors through all seasons of life is a focus at this center. Programs include meals, birthday celebrations, walks around Green Lake, technology help, dancing, games, and opportunities to connect in the community.

West Seattle Senior Center. “Livin’ life @ the center” is the focus of this vibrant senior center. It is a diverse community which is also leading the way in offering activities and groups for LGBTQ seniors. Visitors at this location enjoy themed meals, foreign language instruction, art classes, and more.

Pierce County senior centers

Bonney Lake Senior Center. Seniors enjoy dozens of opportunities each week. There’s a focus on supporting one another and connection through lessons, games, social events, educational opportunities, recreation and exercise, and free or discounted services offered by the community.

Buckley Senior Center. This center is “where friends meet.” Transportation services, including rides into Enumclaw, are available as well as meals, games, outings, seasonal celebrations, and other activities.

Fife Senior Center (no website). The Fife Center is located at 2111 54th Avenue East, Fife, WA 98424. The s mall center offers classes, social events, and community help.

Key Peninsula Senior Center. Staff check in on regulars if they stop attending, help with medication management, provide nutritional guidance, and provide high-quality programs and opportunities.

Lakewood Senior Center. Overlooking Seeley Lake Park, seniors are welcome at this activity center for meals, birthday parties, exercise and learning, and more fun.

Puyallup Senior Center (no website). Puyallup SC is located at 4009 9th St Southwest, Puyallup, WA.

Sumner Senior Center. Adults 55 and over gather at this center for dozens of offerings including: meals, a warm cup of coffee, live music, games, Facebook lessons, smartphone classes, and visits from other community groups. Transportation services are available to/from the center and around town.

Tacoma Senior Centers

Tacoma Senior Centers. Two centers are operated by the city of Tacoma, Beacon and Lighthouse. Meals, classes, games, and events are offered at both locations as well as self-care opportunities such as nail care, hair cuts, and dental visits. Free transportation to/from the center is available for all seniors living in Tacoma.

Tacoma – Pt. Defiance Senior Center. This location is operated within a senior housing community but is open to others, thousands take part here each year. A unique feature of this center is that non-senior family members and friends are welcome to join seniors for classes, games, programs, etc.
