In 2022, the 49th Annual Community Celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. will be a video production available online on Monday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m. You may watch it at any time. With the historic Mount Zion Baptist Church as the setting and hosted by KIRO-7’s Monique Ming Laven, the program includes the inspiring voices of DaNell Daymon & Greater Works; an overview of Seattle Colleges’ Project Baldwin; and a talk with T. Elon Dancy, PhD, of the University of Pittsburgh. Both the Project Baldwin overview and Dr. Dancy’s talk will focus on improving outcomes for Black and Brown and other male students from groups traditionally underserved by higher education. The program also will include the announcement of the 2022 McKinney Scholar, honoring the late Rev. Dr. Samuel B. McKinney, a giant among civil-rights leaders in Seattle.
