Juneteenth is the holiday that commemorates the abolition of slavery in the United States. June 19, or Juneteenth marks the day Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, to let to inform those still under the yoke of slavery that they were free on June 19th, 1865.
