Artificial intelligence (AI) systems abound in everyday life. They are used to moderate your social media feed and, increasingly, respond to your online search questions. This talk covers AI systems—their history, an overview of how they work, and on generative AI systems like ChatGPT, plus address some big questions: How can they learn to do the right thing in high-stakes settings, like healthcare? What will AI systems mean for art and human meaning? And most importantly: Who will be the winners and losers in this new AI age? Lead by Jared Moore, an AI researcher and author of “The Strength of the Illusion” earning his PhD in computer science at Stanford University. Most recently, he was a lecturer at the University of Washington, where he taught classes on the math, philosophy, and the ethics of AI.
