The Tacoma Urban Performing Arts Center (TUPAC) proudly presents a Tacoma Creates event “TUPAC presents Harriet: The Black Swan, In the Year of COVID-19”. Featuring a 34-minute short film – 90% shot on an iPhone 7 – visualizing four seasons in the life of Harriet Tubman. Entirely video-taped in the South Sound, and danced by TUPAC students, the work exemplifies the concept of making lemonade from lemons. Here, Harriet Tubman’s story is told through dance, opening the door to discussions on various methods of teaching history. This offering has the opportunity to spark an interest in story telling through one’s own lens. How to use your smart phone for more than social media, games and TikTok.
